Where Seraphim Dare To Fly

This weblog is a place to enjoy, discuss and critique comic books, pop culture, (often NSFW) the sexy and the speculative fandom from a progressive point of view.

Speaking of inconsistent backstory and Bruce being a dumb ass.
I loved this issue because not only is there Bat-Affection and I get to Tin Hat to my hearts content about Bruce/Cass (yes, I can complain about Bruce and ship him with people at the same time), but this is a beautiful moment of Cass Getting It more than Bruce has ever gotten it. He’s asking her about loyalty - being petty and ridiculous, worrying, essentially, that she likes Babs more than she likes him, and Cass shows him up completely.
It isn’t about him, and it isn’t about Babs (although it should be more about Babs than about him), it’s about Cass, and her desire to do something good with these skills she developed, these skills that were forced on her in order to turn her into a killer. I loved the Batgirl title because it had Cass on this road to recovery and healing and while she had people helping her along the way - Steph and Babs most notably - it was something she managed for herself and largely by herself. She didn’t need Bruce’s guidance as much as he thought she did.
